Problem: Snow melting off my roof into a sheet of ice in front of my porch, resulting in slick of ice in front of my front step.
Solution: Put a new "front step" on the (ice-free) side of the porch, and move welcome mat accordingly.
Append invitations with:
"SPECIAL SPRING NOTE: Please come up the SIDE of my porch, where I moved the welcome mat. Please do NOT approach the front of the porch..."
There, I fixed it!

Lay some of Bunn's hay in front of your door to avoid slipping/fall.
Hay doesn't bind to ice. I'd chop the ice away with a maul, but since the roof is still dripping, there's no point in doing that.
The option I chose is to use the side of the porch. That works, too. :)
Looks like what I used to call a "Fairbanks Fix". The quickest, easiest way to fix something with minimal (or zero) expenditure money, time, or effort.
