On the transition from the Silicon to the Tanana Valley, from urban to rural life, and from working in industry to being a full-time student to working in academia. If you see your name or photo on this blog and want it removed, please let me know and I will do so!
You're not far from the truth. There are rich people who are backing this just so they can have fresh woolly mammoth steaks. Aside from their motives, I think this is actually a kinda cool project. It could actually bring us a whole lot of new biological technology...
That's ridiculous if true to revive an animal for a new item on the menu or for sport. I still say put all these people that like to shoot everything on an island and let them have it out. And who ever's left can be served up on a platter and fed to the reconstituted mammoth (after they turn on the carnivore gene of course).
TwoYaks, you can't be serious! If nothing else, what kind of havoc would it release onto our current ecosystems to bring back beasts from the past? What if they out-compete moose for winter browse? The moose seem hard up enough as it is! Will they have to bring back saber-tooth cats to keep the populations in check? Then will they have to bring back other ancient bacteria that will degrade these beasties' flesh after they have died? And so ad infinitum?

Well, I was *kinda, sorta* joking.
