In the past few weeks, I three times seriously feared or came close to losing someone I loved--V, M, and Autumn. All three of them are still with me in body and mind, and today I give thanks and once again feel like the luckiest person on earth.
It's funny that this peculiar form of pessimism (always worrying...) leads to such great joy and thankfulness. It's is really quite amazing. People of more supposedly optimistic temperament don't furrow their eyebrows and wring their hands imagining their friends in car crashes, or their dogs dead in ditches, but they also don't know the exquisite joy of imagining their friends in car crashes, and then seeing them alive!
Today I feel so thankful to be alive and whole and loved, and no-one without my neuroses will ever know how that feels, at least not to that extent!

What happened to Autumn??
She took off and spent 26 hours on the lam, during which she had some sort of mental break from reality. Seizures run in her family... I'll post about it later, but she's back safe and sound in both body and mind. :)
(Not that I don't care about V and M but I don't know who they are.)
V's and M's stories are much less dramatic. With V, we had a scare on an icy highway when I was driving, and the passenger side was the unfortunate one. With M, it was just that I had forgotten about the time change when I was supposed to meet her. She is never, ever, *ever* late for anything, so when I perceived her to be late, I pretty much flipped out. :/
Poor Autumn. Glad she is back and well and not like Simple Dog: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Here's a shorter URL for Simple Dog. I'm sure you've already read it but maybe some other visitors to your blog haven't: http://goo.gl/xEEcG
How was the driver after the car accident? Was V hospitalized or injured?
We're both absolutely fine. :) There was no crash; just slid off the highway.
oh, thanks Gohonzon and whoever was watching over you. Please be more careful and make sure your car is good for winter driving.
I didn't know dogs can have mental break, hope she is all recovered
