Hey! We did it!
29,577 signatures collected out of 28,501 signatures needed for the application.
The next phase is the official Petition stage, which will require 71,252 signatures of registered Alaska voters (equal to 25% of the total number of voters having voted in the 2018 General Election).
Details why here.
Other updates: Dunleavy is getting scared and compromising more. He moved to a smaller and more gradual UA funding cut. He has also restored some Medicare funding that provides health care for low income seniors.
He now claims, disingenuously and ridiculously, that his original budget cuts and vetoes were intended to "start a conversation about what Alaskans value". He claims that he is now reversing some of the budgets "Because the feedback we got from Alaskans … was that seniors are valued, kids are valued, and Alaska is willing to look at other parts of the budget before we go look at programs that address seniors and kids..."
Yeah, I'm sure he had no idea that Alaskans valued their elders and their children and public education until he killed them on purpose to gauge their reactions, right?
He's scared! I just hope the people stay angry enough at him to keep fighting and collecting signatures to get him out of office!
Here is a great opinion piece by an Anchorage lawyer that highlights more of Dunleavy's creepiness and craziness.
And here is Dermot Cole's take.
And here is a gratuitous snuggle photo:
