Summer in the Tanana Valley

Yesterday, the wind changed to an unfavorable direction, with regards to the local wildfires, and as I left campus yesterday evening, the air was smoky. Not unpleasantly so--yet--and it had cleared up by morning, so I have hope that this will not be a horribly smoky summer. The firefighters have done a fantastic, bang-up job of management so far this year. I have nothing but the deepest respect for them.

Wild roses are also blooming everywhere, filling the air and even cutting through the smoke with their sweet, coquettish scent.
