Okay, look...

You media people can scrutinize and criticize Sarah Palin all you want. That's what people sign up for when they go into politics. However, please stop sneeringly commenting on her love of mooseburgers. It's a low blow to make fun of regional differences just to make someone sound provincial. No-one made fun of Bill Clinton's Southern accent. No-one made fun of GW Bush's Texas accent. (Okay, we make fun of his elocution, but that's different.) Besides, in this particular instance, I think our regional difference is superior to the mainstream. I, for one, would MUCH prefer responsibly-hunted moose meat to factory-farmed CAFO meat, with its cruelty, antibiotics, hormones, and potential for disease. I thought that non-vegetarians making fun of hunters had become passe. Yet here we have the mainstream media doing it. Not a vegetarian? Okay, then shut up about subsistence hunters. Thank you.

Amen.
There was a cute bumper sticker saying `there's never been a moose meat recall.` I liked it.

It's part of their program to pain AK as backwoods and backwards, and Palin as the same by extension.

Seems like from what I've been reading, her detractors are trying to emphasize her inexperience - small town mayor, 18mo as governor instead of her rural lifestyle.

I know little to nothing about politics and I sure don't have interest in that area. I only know life is unpredictable, if old McCain dies for any unforeseeable reason shortly after being a president, she will have to step up and hopefully she can lead the country. Believe it or not, I was for Ms. Hilary who is a bitch, but she is experienced, intelligent and determined.

I'm not saying I approve of the choice. I just don't see where her regional diet is relevant. And yes, I do agree, the VP choice is more important than ever with McCain looking like he's got one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel... Like I said, criticize her inexperience and politics all you like, but to bag on her regional diet is pure silliness, and it's offensive to people who live in her region. There are world-renowned PhDs at the University, not to mention the world's leading petroleum engineers working in the oil industry, who enjoy a good mooseburger. Are they all backwoods bumpkins as well?

I don't know that persuing values based in fairness or compassion ever become "passe". The time for doing the right thing is always "now".

The media is glorifying Palin's animal/meat/hunting hobbies. As a "veg-head", it's offensive. As a voter, I'm more concerned with facts of policy rather than "popularity and publicity".

I get it that she's a gun-toteing carnivore! - Yeah, McCain supporters - that's a real "change" alright.

"pursuing values based... on compassion" is *exactly* my point. Responsible subsistence hunting is far superior to factory farming in terms of humane treatment of animals, so, as I've implied, NON-vegetarians criticizing hunters is a hypocritical and uneducated thing to do.

As for pure vegetarians, such as yourself, carry on. I have no problem with you. I raise my hat to you and admire your integrity. Carry on.

Not clear to me that being shot by a hunter is necessarily less painful/more humane than being killed on a "happy cows" farm in a controlled way - not that I know anything about the slaughtering process, but I would think that at a happy cows farm, that they would have adopted practices to minimize suffering. A bullet by a hunter may or may not hit at the right location to minimize suffering.

Anonymous, yes, that's true. But the majority of hunting critics are not so thoughtful as you. They happily buy meat from factory farms, but then turn around and criticize subsistence hunters. My rant is more aimed at them. Of course, most of "them" likely don't even read this blog, since my readers are among the most thoughtful and intelligent people on earth. :) It was just sort of a vent and another bit of what I consider legitimate silicon2tanana opinion.

By the way, factory farms kill humanely, too. They stun them and then slit their throats. There is little suffering *in that particular moment.* The cruelty and ecological disaster in factory farming is in the entire process beforehand. :/
