Miscellany

Today is my friend Joe's birthday, so I made him chocolate-dipped macaroons. He turns 24 today. 24! Aaaaaaaaaw, bless!

In case you were wondering, it takes me about 2 hours to split enough wood for two weeks and kindling for a month.

That doesn't look like very much, but I only burn wood when I am at home and conscious. When I go to bed or am out, the oil stove kicks in (its thermostat is set to 50F/10C). So I heat with wood for an average of 6 hours a day. If I were to use exclusively wood heat, I would burn four times as much wood. That would have me spending four hours a week splitting wood! But it would eliminate the "making kindling" part of the chore, which is my least favorite, just above doing laundry. I hate doing laundry above all things! I generally don't do laundry until I have handwashed socks and underwear for at least a week, and/or reached for these socks:

Ha ha.

Nothing wrong with those socks, very cheerful. You sister would wear them too

As someone who spends so much time at a university, I'd think you could do something with all the paper waste and turn it into kindling.

Laundry's one of my favorite tasks because I can set the machine and then walk away. Unlike, say, washing pots and pans, where you're stuck at the sink. I will grant you that putting away the laundry is a great pain in the patootie.

I agree. Laundry is my favorite chore bc you can dump it in and then just go back to doing whatever you were doing. Though if you're going to a laundromat or handwashing clothes, it would then become my least favorite chore!

I use paper to start fires, but I definitely need splintered wood to catch before a log will catch!

And... I don't know why doing laundry bugs me so much. It didn't when I was growing up, and we didn't have our own washer and dryer then. I only once had my own washer and dryer in my home, and I didn't abhor doing laundry any less then, either!

Growing up wasn't so bad - the laundry was just on the other side of are backyard.

um, I meant "our backyard"

Muffin used to keep me company when I did laundry. She also sat on the backs of my legs while I knelt to fold laundry. :*)
