Fireweed

I think there's a possibility that fireweed is growing in the front yard. Are the leaves tough and rough? While I was googling about for a picture of the whole plant, not just the flower, I came across this: http://skagitfoodshed.wordpress.com/2008/05/21/weed-and-feed-fireweed/ You can EAT the stuff!
@Rena: I've heard you are only supposed to eat the new spring tips, but I've tried them, and even they strike me as tough and bitter! I have seen the flowers made into beautiful jellies and syrups, but I've made tea with them, and found them to have no flavor at though (although they have, I'm told, a nice dose of vitamin C). So I wonder what the jellies taste like?

Many plants look alike in the same or different species. Don't just taste it for trial.
@mdr: Don't worry; I don't eat plants willy-nilly. But fireweed products are consumed so commonly around here, I figured I'd try one fresh, is all.
