Because that's what moose are. Big, giant rabbits with hooves. All the traits of rabbit-dom, scaled up: dumb, ill-tempered, and prone to violent kicking if annoyed.
Please do not pet the moose.

The only thing more dumb than the person was some of the commenters on the story. I loved the one who asked `who elected the biologist as spokesman for the moose's tribe?`
