HAHAHAHAHA

Oh, Miner News, you are are so funny.

I checked the thermometer outside my house this morning and found it reading -35F/-37C. It's always warmer in my neck of the woods, so out of curiosity I called Dan, who read -45F/-43C. That's minus forty-five degrees, mofos, yeah, I said it.

And today, the newspaper informs us that there has been "no official 40 below temperature in Fairbanks this winter"

HAHAHAHAHAHA

My sister gave me the technical term for this weather.

ASS-COLD

Here are some misc photos.

The girls get a daily paw inspection for cracked pads, broken toenails, etc.

A moose:

Here she looks veewwwy angwy (but please don't chide me for upsetting her; Dan took and sent me the photo):

Other things to do when it’s -40… only in Fairbanks!

What do you mean? Darker? It hasn't seen sun in a while. :)

Ah yes, I remember putting the gear on to bike to work everyday in those temps... Sigh...

Can I trade weather with you? Only for an hour, of course. Endless triple digits does get a bit tiring after a while.

So what do you do for cracked paws? Is that a cold-weather thing or do paws crack all year round?

and yes, your sister's right - that's ass-cold.

We haven't had any paw-crackage (touch wood), but what you'd do is moisturize it with something heavy (lanolin, shea butter, petroleum jelly, vegetable shortening, etc) and then put a bootie on it. And give it rest until it heals. The paw inspection is also for broken nails, cuts, abrasions, etc, of which we've had our share! Nothing you can do about those except rest.

I would really, really, really like to see the yahoo weather page say "Ass Cold" just once! It would be awesomely hilarious!

Agreed. Yahoo really needs to extend its vocabulary base to include some descriptive and far more appropriate adjectives...

Merely "cold" doesn't cut it when your contact lenses are freezing to your corneas.
