First Friday

The first Friday of every month, the artsy-fartsy stores downtown remain open late and serve snacks and sangria and display artsy-fartsy stuff. This month, they did fundraisers for breast cancer-related causes. It's not breast cancer awareness month or anything, so it was completely apropos of nothing, but they were doing a bit of good work, and there were boobs involved, so how could I resist? Everybody likes boobies!

Local artists had decorated bras to be wall art, and were auctioning them off for the Breast Cancer Detection Center.

Crowds even gathered in the vintage stores, which were displaying decorated bras but were otherwise completely irrelevant to boobies.

Oh, here are some finger puppets I found that reminded me of my first pet rats, Euler and Bernoulli:

There were boobie-shaped petits fours on sticks:

Some of the bras:

This was in a hair salon, which was among the more unusual of the venues that agreed to host a portion of this event. It actually turned out to be really appropriate, since hair salons have good lighting, lots of mirrors, and lots of wall space.

Oh, here are some photos from the girls' and my walk this morning.

Willows with their fuzzy catkins:

There are iron oxides in our local water. You can see it in the creeks and puddles. Most folks need to treat their well water for it:

Brrrr! It was a chilly morning, for May:

The main trail on the Isberg Trail system:

You can see from looking at the sides of the trail, that if it weren't for the hard work of the folks who laid a foundation, built it up, and lined it with gravel, it would be, as most other trails are, muddy, boggy, and accessible in winter only. So, thank you Fairbanks for building a nice trail in our neighborhood that is accessible year-round!

Look! Spring is about to spring in my yard!

Glad you are having the city water, just be careful with your back when lugging them back

That's neat about the trail - someone sensible designed that one.
But what's with the decorated bras on the wall? I don't get that, even if it is for breast cancer awareness. well, whatever.
So if you're still having frosty mornings, when's Fairbanks' last frost date? And what are your daylight hours these days?
